Please Don't feed the ducks and geese!

Feeding ducks or geese bread, tacos, baked goods, etc. can have devastating effects. These foods can swell and lodge in the bird's throat, thereby causing asphyxiation. Although feeding waterfowl more natural foods such as grain and corn can reduce the risk of asphyxiation, it may set a bad example as people may see you feed the birds, but not know what you are feeding them. Also keep in mind that some waterfowl, in particular Canada geese, are viewed a nuisances, and that by feeding them you are habituating them to the area and they may be tempted to stay permanently. This could result in complaints to the municipality who may in turn deal with the overpopulation by killing or relocating the geese, neither of which is a "goose-friendly" solution.
